Prime Minister Anthony to address the nation on Crime and Security |
Contact: Rose Marie Harris Tuesday, February 18, 2003 - With the possibility of war looming on the horizon, and its impact on Saint Lucia’s economy, government is continuing its efforts to ensure that the issue of crime and security are addressed. Prime Minister, Honourable Dr. Kenny Anthony will address the nation in a matter of days on new measures to be instituted to help cope with the problems. Dr. Anthony made that disclosure on Monday when he met with the local press to review the just concluded 14th Intercessional Meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government. “I will be addressing the nation in the next few days on matters of security here in Saint Lucia and the Saint Lucian public will have to be advised that there are a number of new measures that will have to be put in place here in Saint Lucia to cope with problems that have arisen over the past few months and of course in previous years. Small countries like ours that are open and with gateways to the international community can be utilised very, very effectively because it is well known that given our tourism industry and our lack of resources, that we do not pay the kind of attention that we need to pay to these matters,” said Dr. Anthony. |
