Thursday, December 18, 2003 - The Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards and the
Office of Private Sector Relations (OPSR) have collaborated in the
implementation of a new project called “Enhancement of the Competitiveness of
the Private/ Industrial Sector through Quality Control and Certification.”
A release from the Office of the OPSR states that the project was devised to
assist the Bureau in delivering improved services to the local business
community.
The two parties will formally sign a Memorandum of Agreement on Monday December
22, 2003, which will put into effect the disbursement of EC$ 400, 000.00 for the
project.
The OPSR has committed $240,000.00 to conduct four activities, including
training sessions in Food Safety, Quality Control and Certification as well as
the verification of electricity meters.
Further the Bureau will assist the private sector in its maintenance of
international quality and standards for locally produced goods and services.
Funds will also be made available for the promotion of the Saint Lucia Bureau of
Standards “Product Certification Mark.”
