Friday, May 09, 2003 –The National Television Network is pleased to present a pioneering educational series entitled Science, Technology and You. This series is an initiative by the National Council for Science and Technology for Development and the Sustainable Development Unit of the Ministry of Planning. The project was funded by UNESCO.

The aim of the series is to stimulate an interest in and zeal for science and technology especially among secondary school students. Over the years, the number of students opting to do the sciences has been decreasing partially because of the perception that sciences offer limited career opportunities.

Science, Technology and You demonstrates clearly that this is not the case by highlighting the diverse professional fields in which science and technology are not only applicable but essential. Produced by the local video production company, Visual Domain, the eleven-part series explains the scientific processes at work in areas such as medicine, aquaculture and manufacturing. Interviews with professionals in these fields among others are included to give students a clear idea of how subjects such as physics, chemistry and mathematics apply to their area of work.

Science, Technology and You will begin airing on NTN this Wednesday May 14 at 8:00 p.m. To accommodate students who are now sitting the CXC exams, two episodes will be aired weekly on Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout May and into early June. However, another cycle of the series will be aired in September so that all students will get an opportunity to watch these stimulating and informative videos.
