Thursday, July 31, 2003 - Scores of residents of the Debarras Community
in Babonneau are now proud owners of lands and a new access road which will
facilitate easier traffic within that community. The project was initiated by
the Programme for the Regularization of Unplanned
Development (PROUD), in the Ministry of Physical Development, Environment and
Housing.
Speaking at a presentation ceremony Tuesday, Parliamentary Representative for
Babonneau and Minister for Communications, Works, Transport and Public
Utilities, Honourable Felix Finisterre, called on the Debarras residents to look
upon such developments as a positive move. According to Finisterre, while some
may see development essentially as large infrastructural establishments, the
people of Debarras now have the opportunity to own lands and should consider
this occasion as a remarkable achievement.
Meantime, Prime Minister Honourable Dr. Kenny Anthony, advised the residents to
embark on a beautification project of their homes and the community. Such an
initiative, according to the Prime Minister, will undoubtedly lend additional
value to the land.
Two thousand feet of road were constructed and 28 house lots were made available
under that project, costing just above $EC400, 000.
