Wednesday, April 16, 2003 - The grand opening of the extension to La Place Carenage, a duty free shopping complex managed by the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA), will this year coincide with day one of the hosting of its sixth Tea Time Jazz show next month. The opening show is slated for May 5, 2003..

Tea Time Jazz is one of the fringe activities of the St. Lucia Jazz Festival which has been described in a very optimistic light. Director of Sea Ports, Lancelot Arnold, who spoke at the press launch of this year’s Tea Time Jazz on Wednesday, says to a large extent the event’s success is owed to the attractiveness of La Place Carenage, which he has described as “an ideal venue.”

“It is both a trans shipment point as well as a tourists’ centre. Thus Tea Time Jazz is a vital link for persons coming into the island and the cruise ships to truly sample something St.Lucian,” said Arnold.

Tea Time Jazz takes off on Monday May 5 and continues until May 8. The show has become known for being one of the premiere showcases for local entertainers. This year’s line up will feature the Diamond Steel Orchestra, Monty Maxwell and Friends, songstress Claudia “Diva” Edwards and the band Equinox.
