Monday, August 04, 2003 – The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) celebrates
its thirtieth anniversary this year and its secretariat has been engaged in a
series of activities to observe this landmark occasion. The National Television
Network (NTN) is also marking this historic event by a special week of
programming featuring CARICOM beginning Monday, August 11.
Each day will focus on a CARICOM related issue via a documentary, lecture or
special feature. One of the highlights of the week’s programming is the premier
of a three-part documentary entitled ‘Integrate or Perish’ which explores the
integration movement from 1963 to 1999. Part one airs on Monday, August 11 at
8:00 p.m. Another highlight of the week is the rebroadcast of Prime Minister Dr.
Kenny Anthony’s Inaugural Michael Manley Lecture, ‘Caribbean Integration…Has the
Moment Passed?’ delivered in Jamaica earlier this year at the launch of the
Michael Manley Foundation.
And throughout the week viewers will get an inside look at a selected number of
CARICOM territories via a series of short features on islands such as St. Kitts
& Nevis, Montserrat, Jamaica and St. Vincent & the Grenadines.
The management of NTN urges all St. Lucians to tune into this special week of
CARICOM programming, especially in light of globalisation and the need for the
region to strengthen its effort toward integration.
