AG Heads Team to Martinique for Security Talks |
Contact: Prime Minister's Press Secretary February 24, 2003 - A team of law enforcement personnel, led by the Attorney General Petrus Compton, the island for Martinique today to continue the dialogue between St. Lucia and France on issues relating to law enforcement, crime and cross-border security. According to the Attorney genera’s Chambers, this visit follows one to St. Lucia in December 2002 by a similar team from Martinique, led by the French island’s Procurator General. While in Martinique, local officials from the Customs and Immigration Departments, the Police and the Magistracy, the Director of Public Prosecutions and the High Court will make presentations to their French counterparts. The local official will highlight various aspects of law enforcement in St. Lucia and seek to lay the basis for greater and more effective cooperation between the two countries. During the visit, the Attorney General will continue discussions with legal and diplomatic personnel from France on an Agreement for the Return of Persons of Irregular Status. It is hoped that the Prime Minister will be able to sign this Agreement in early March. |
