Tuesday 19th November 2002 - Two workshops aimed at equipping leaders of community organisations with video production skills, will be held in St. Lucia during the month of November. The main areas to be covered are research, scripting and preparing the storyboard. Participants will also receive hands-on training on the techniques on filming, and introduction to non-linear editing.

The workshop for participants in the south of the island will be held on Saturday 23rd November at the Sir. Arthur Lewis Community College in Vieux-Fort, while the workshop for participants in the north of the island will be held at the Folk Research Centre in Castries on Saturday November 30th 2002.

Course facilitators are Ernesto Che Rodriquez, an independent video producer with over twenrty years of production experience in many Caribbean countries, and Fimber Anius, one of the leading videographers in St. Lucia with over fifteen years experience in the field.

The workshops are jointly organised by the Department of Information Services and the UNESCO National Commission which also secured the funding. Among the objectives of this training programme are to provide an understanding and insight into the power of the mass media and increase the quality and volume of local materials in the media in St. Lucia.

Community based workshops on preparation of packages and features for television will be held in the south and north of the island, for community organisations, to assist them in better being able to package basic productions for broadcast.
