Contact: St. Lucia Tourist Board

Castries, Thursday, January 31, 2002 -- After only two months of introducing their weekly non-stop service to St. Lucia, US Airways has announced that it will introduce a second non-stop flight out of Philadelphia commencing this Sunday, February 03, 2002.

Flight # 1079 will depart Philadelphia every Sunday at 9:45 am arriving in St. Lucia at 3:35 pm. From St. Lucia, the flight will depart at 4:20 pm and will arrive in Philadelphia at 8:30 pm.

The introduction of the US Airways inaugural flight into St. Lucia on December 15, 2001, fulfilled a major objective in the St. Lucia Tourist Board’s current three year marketing strategy for the US. The plan called for the introduction of non-stop service to St. Lucia on an American carrier, a service the Board felt was critical to the enhancement of St. Lucia’s tourism product as well as the marketing of the island. Since the introduction of the flight, the weekly Philadelphia/St. Lucia route has proven to be extremely successful for an inaugural flight, bringing in an additional 90 visitors per flight into the island.

According to SLTB Director of Tourism, the announcement of a second flight is certainly an "added bonus" and is an indication of US Airways’ confidence in St. Lucia’s tourism industry.

"The introduction of this second service will contribute significantly to the Board’s efforts in the marketing of St. Lucia in the US," says Modeste. "The fact that it is non-stop flight is an added bonus in terms of marketing the island as a premiere destination and we certainly welcome this additional flight."
