Tourist Board to Hold First Regional Marketing Meeting |
Contact: St. Lucia Tourist Board Castries, Wednesday, January 30, 2002 -- The St. Lucia Tourist Board will host its first ever regional marketing meeting tomorrow. The objectives of the meeting are to review the performance of the Caribbean market as well as to finalize details of the St. Lucia Tourist Board’s upcoming regional promotional activities. This information will then be translated into an overall plan of action for the marketing of St. Lucia in the Caribbean during the upcoming 2002 / 2003 fiscal year, which commences April 01, 2002. According to Marketing Manager Tracey Warner-Arnold, intra-regional Caribbean travel has grown significantly over the last decade and St. Lucia has been no exception. "In St. Lucia we have seen arrivals from the region increase by 10.5 per cent, making the Caribbean the third largest producer of arrivals to St. Lucia," says Warner-Arnold. "The current downturn in the US economy, coupled with the September 11 tragedy, has resulted in a decline in arrivals from the United States, making the UK and the Caribbean even more critical in terms of their contributions to tourist arrivals in St. Lucia. From a regional marketing perspective, this means we need to enhance our overall marketing efforts." Thursday’s meeting will also address last year’s performance in the Caribbean, with various presentations by SLTB representatives. Scheduled to attend the meeting are representatives from local hotels, the Ministry of Tourism, and other key stakeholders in the local tourism industry. Representatives from Karib Tourism Department, the Tourist Board’s marketing agency for the French Caribbean, will also be on hand to present and for one on one discussion with interested stakeholders. The SLTB regional marketing meeting takes place from 10 am at the Rex St. Lucian Hotel. |
