Friday, September 20, 2002 – The Early Childhood Education Services Unit of the Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development, Youth and Sports and the Human Services Division of the Ministry of Health, and Family Affairs, have joined forces to undertake a UNICEF initiative dubbed the Global Movement for Children (GMC).

Under the theme ‘Change the World with Children,’ the GMC has as its focus a ten (10) point agenda which encompasses issues that reflect the needs and plight of children.

St. Lucia will launch its chapter of the UN sponsored initiative on September 27, 2002 at the Beausejour Cricket Grounds at Gros-Islet The launching will take the forms of a National Children’s Rally and will draw a list of dignitaries among them Governor General Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy and Prime Minister Honourable Dr. Kenny Anthony who will deliver the keynote address.

A series of media sensitization activities has gotten underway aimed at heightening public awareness of the movement. The GMC is a call for all civil society to come together and form partnerships in a valiant attempt to create a world ‘fit’ for children.
