At a brief ceremony in the Prime Minister’s Lounge, Ambassador Jianming described his stay on the island as a memorable one pointing out that ties between the two countries had been significantly strengthened to the benefit of both parties. “The Chinese Government attaches great importance to the relationship between China and St. Lucia. I would like to take this opportunity on my departure to express my deepest appreciation to you Honourable Prime Minister for your kind support and special care in ensuring the development of St. Lucia/China relations,” said Ambassador Jianming. However he says efforts will resume to ensure that China continues to play a leading role in the development of St. Lucia. According to Dr. Anthony, “The People of St. Lucia will be eternally grateful to the Peoples Republic of China for the very splendid gifts to St. Lucia. I speak of the Free Zone and of course the National Stadium and as the Stadium quickly become a reality, more and more St. Lucians are beginning to appreciate that it is a marvellous statement of the friendship between our respective countries. I believe that it will assist us not only to reshape the talents of our young people but to give expressions to those talents.” A replacement for the outgoing Ambassador is yet to be announced. St. Lucia formally established diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China on September 01, 1997. |
