Wednesday, June 26, 2002 - Saint Lucia will get the opportunity this weekend to present its tourism product to the rest of the Caribbean. That’s when the Saint Lucia Tourist Board embarks on a four-day promotional campaign in Barbados which will include the hosting of a booth at the annual ‘Habitat Caribbean Exposition’.

The sales blitz forms part of a wider regional summer promotional programme involving a number of key Caribbean islands. Over 100 exhibitors are expected to take part in Habitat Caribbean 2002, a three-day exposition of the cuisine, furnishings, décor, and vacation and travel services that are available throughout the Caribbean.

According to Visitor and Public Relations Manager at the Saint Lucia Tourist Board, Alison Theodore, the Tourist Board hopes to also promote the island’s upcoming carnival celebrations among other events. “We will also be placing emphasis on small properties, we have also arranged for a number of media interviews while in Barbados and in addition to this we will spend one day visiting some of the top travel agents in Barbados and doing individual briefings with them on how they sell St. Lucia to their clients. Of course the travel agents play a critical role in driving business to the island.”

The Caribbean is Saint Lucia’s third largest market with Barbados representing one of the highest sources of tourist traffic from the region. It is expected that this weekend’s promotion in Barbados will play a major role in increasing tourist arrivals from the region during the summer months and specifically for the Carnival season.
