Regional Small Business Entrepreneurs Meet in Saint Lucia |
Tuesday, April 02, 2002 - When a three day workshop targeting Caribbean small business entrepreneurs, organisations and agencies convenes in Saint Lucia later this week, officials of the Ministry of Commerce are hopeful that participants will become more aware of their specific role in the economic development of the region. Director of the Small Enterprise Development Unit (SEDU) Peter Lorde explains this is just one of the aims of the three day workshop. “By the end of the third day it is expected that participants will be aware of the different programmes and assistance levels available at both the national and regional levels, opportunities available for expansion regionally, avenues for problem solving through national or regional collaboration, and mechanisms for articulating needs and influencing government policy,” he said. The three day workshop will include a half-day tour of a number of small businesses in the north of the island. Over eighteen countries from the English, French and Dutch speaking islands in the Caribbean are expected to be represented at the session. The April 03-05 2002 workshop is being hosted by the Government of Saint Lucia, the Ministry of Commerce and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). |
