Prime Minister Anthony Congratulates Sir John |
Contact: Roger D. Joseph Tuesday, July 09, 2002 – Prime Minister Honourable Dr. Kenny D. Anthony has congratulated Sir John Compton on his being awarded the Order of the Caribbean Community (OCC). In a letter to the former Prime Minister, Dr. Anthony told Sir John, “On behalf of the Government and People of Saint Lucia, I wish to congratulate you most sincerely on being awarded the region’s highest honour.” Prime Minister Anthony noted that Sir John was involved in many of CARICOM’s early initiatives, some of which have begun to bear fruit only now. A good example of this, Dr. Anthony added, was the establishment of the Caribbean Court of Justice. He said too, it was good that CARICOM would so recognise Sir John’s contribution to the region. The Heads of Government of CARICOM agreed, at its Twenty Third meeting held in Guyana from July 3 – 5, to award the Order of the Caribbean Community to Sir John Compton as one of the individuals who has “contributed to forging a stronger Caribbean identity, promoted the excellence of the Caribbean internationally, and raised the self esteem of the people of the Caribbean through work in their respective fields”. |
