PM Meets Janice Francis Memorial Foundation Board |
Tuesday, March 19, 2002 – Members of the Board of the Janice Francis Memorial Foundation paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Honourable Dr. Kenny Anthony Friday March 15, 2002. The purpose of the visit was to apprise Dr. Anthony on the programme of the Foundation and in that respect to endeavour to elicit government’s support in providing even greater stability to that institution. Chairman of the Foundation Andre Paul explained that there is much that has been accomplished since the establishment of the Fund. However, in spite of the support from the public sector, there remains much to be done due to the numerous requests from persons needing very expensive medical attention. Mr. Paul indicated to the Prime Minister that the members of the Ogranization are not just “sitting on their laurels”, but are constantly working. Monies were being collected from various organizations and the Foundation was seeking to introduce a system whereby employees of both the Private and Public Sector who want to assist the Foundation could do so through a monthly deduction of five dollars from their salaries. According to Mr. Paul, the requests for assistance from the Foundation are coming fast and furious, and the organization has already established a system through which the Dental and Medical Association will vet requests for assistance and make suggestions as to which ones should be given priority. In response, the Prime Minister expressed his pleasure with the initiatives taken by the Janice Francis Memorial Foundation and promised government’s commitment to working closely with the organization. |
