Nurses Conference Tackled Epidemiology |
Contact: Primus Hutchinson Wednesday, November 27, 2002 - Surveillance as a challenge for effective healthcare delivery will be the theme for a one day conference organised by the Ministry of Health Community Nursing Unit. The conference will be held at Coubaril Mount of Prayer on Friday December 29 2002, and is expected to focus on increasing the awareness of the importance of the epidemiological surveillance in the delivery of quality and effective nursing care. Assistant Principal Nursing Officer with the Ministry of Health, Ava Auguste says the conference will initially address the importance of Epidemiology Surveillance in the delivery of quality Healthcare; examine the role of the nurse in Epidemiological Surveillance; review the impact of nurse migration on Epidemiological Surveillance; and explore strategies to strengthen the surveillance system in the community nursing service. According to nurse Auguste, while the question of Epidemiology may not be a cause for concern at this point, there is the need for continuous vigilance. “ Presently it is not a problem, but we cannot wait until the problem is there to get a contingency plan, we have to get a contingency plan before. As we envisage a problem we have to try to get some plan in place before the problem is actually with us” Auguste said. |
