Lucian Flag Day - Off |
Thursday, February 21, 2002 - ‘Lucian Flag Day’, one of the new activities marking St. Lucia’s 23rd Anniversary of Independence, has been cancelled. Originally carded for the Derek Walcott Square on Independence Day, February 22, the event was pulled off the calendar at the last minute due to a lack of response from sponsors. Main organizers of the event, the Ministry of Tourism, which had been working with the St. Lucia Tourist Board (SLTB) and St. Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association (SLHTA), say efforts will be made at placing the event on the calendar of activities for next year’s observance. ‘Lucian Flag Day’ was designed as a family-oriented activity that would feature diverse cultural performances and entertainment. According to organizers, the novel event would also serve to engender national pride in St. Lucians as they reflect on the national flag, its meaning and significance to an independent nation. |
