Increase Promotion for Saint Lucia’s Tourism Sector |
Contact: Ina Joseph Wednesday, July 31, 2002 - The St. Lucia Tourist Board’s United States Road Shows will begin in Fort Meyers, Florida next week. The one week event is aimed at raising the awareness of Saint Lucia as a choice holiday destination to US based travel agents. The event will culminate in West Orange, New Jersey on August 30th. 2002 The next road show is planned for Canada this coming fall. Public Relations and Visitor Manager at the Tourist Board, Alison Theodore explains that this year the event will cover five strategic regions of the US. “The south-east, mid-west, north-east, Mid-Atlantic, and west-coast regions of the United States. Of course the United States is St. Lucia’s largest market in terms of visitor arrivals and so we feel that it is critical that we hold these Road Shows in this vital market. The travel agents, of course, play such an important role in influencing the holiday choices and it is so important that they have this accurate up to date information on St. Lucia, so that they can in turn effectively sell St. Lucia to their clients.” Theodore says in an effort to strengthen links with US travel agents during the Road Shows, the SLTB will launch its first Piton Travel Incentive Programme. Under this program, competing travel agents will become eligible for Piton Points for every booking they make to St. Lucia between August 1st 2002 and April 30th 2003. The Piton Points will then be awarded based on actual travel. The grand prize of US$ 25,000 will be awarded to the winning travel agent, when the Piton Travel Incentive Programme culminates in an award ceremony to be held in St. Lucia in July 2003. |
