Hats Off - Saint Lucian Spectators Commended |
Contact: Primus Hutchinson Tuesday, June 11, 2002 - Minister for Education, Youth and Sports, Honourable Mario Michel has praised the exemplary behaviour of the St. Lucian public during the two One Day International cricket matches between the West Indies and New Zealand played here on June 8 and 9. Mr. Michel says notwithstanding the minor episode on the first day when some spectators due to their exuberance ran onto the pitch area, their good conduct made the whole of St. Lucia very proud. The Sports Minister indicated that a number of reports, comments and e-mails have been received both here and abroad expressing pride and joy at the high level of publicity St. Lucia received. Mr. Michel made particular reference to an e-mail received from a St. Lucian student in New Zealand. “She said she was overcome with pride and joy as she sat in New Zealand, many miles away from her home country and watch her country and heard the comments of the commentators and the press men about how absolutely fantastic the facility was, how excellent the preparations were, how well the St. Lucian crowd had turned up and how they had conducted themselves in true Caribbean spirit”. The Sports Minister expressed his gratitude to the Government and people of St. Lucia, the West Indies Cricket Board, the St. Lucia Cricket Association and in particular the St. Lucia Tourist Board, which played a significant role in helping with the arrangements, the publicity and the overseas promotion. |
