Tuesday, December 10, 2002 - Organizers believe that as of next year the upcoming Fond D’or Folk Festival will be given a prominent place on St.Lucia’s Jounen Kweyol calendar. For the third year running, the community of Dennery will feature prominently in this year’s National Day activities as they host the Fond D’or Folk Festival on Friday December 13.

The Mabouya Valley Development Project, the Fond D’or Development Committee and the Cultural Development Foundation have pooled resources to make possible this cultural event. Evestus Augustin, a Community Liason Officer and member of the Fond D’or Development Committee says the activity will benefit Dennery in a holistic way. “It’s a broad based community

initiative which is intended to promote the Heritage Tourism Park, exponents

of folk culture, while enhancing opportunities for cultural expression, socio-economic development and upliftment of the area”

According to Augustin, a highlight of the activity is that a cultural exchange has been fostered with a Martinique group who will be participating in the festival, with the support of the St.Lucia/Martinique Association and the French Embassy.

Some of the acts on the card for the day are the Montego Bay Solo Group , La Caye Afro Dancers, and “ Difye an Pay” from Martinique.

St.Lucia’s National Day will be observed on Friday under the official theme: Light for Peace and Progress.
