Contracts Signed for New Technical and Vocational Institute in Ciceron |
Tuesday, March 12, 2002 – Students writing the Common Entrance Examinations will have an additional option in the 2003 common entrance examinations, with the commissioning of a fifteen classroom Technical and Vocational Institute to be built in Ciceron. On Monday, the Minister for Education, Human Resource Development, Youth and Sports Honourable Mario Michel signed an agreement with Contractors Johnstan International from the Turks and Caicos Islands, signalling the official commencement of construction work on the facility. The school, being built at a cost of six million Eastern Caribbean dollars (EC$6 million) will have five specialized rooms, catering to the teaching of Home Economics, Agricultural Science, Integrated Science, Foundation Technology, and Building Mechanics. “We believe that when this institute is complete and utilized as of school year 2003, it will add a new component to our secondary education offering, and will greatly complement the other strict academic secondary schools,” said Minister Michel. The contractors on this project also built the Babonneau and Soufriere Secondary Schools, and the Education Minister expects they will work with the same level of efficiency and professionalism. The Project is expected to be completed by June 30, 2003 and the construction phase will be supervised by a local firm - Caribbean Consulting Engineers. |
