Wednesday, February 20, 2002 - The Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards Technical Committee on Advertising will be hosting a consultation on the Draft Standard entitled "General Requirements for Advertising". The consultation is scheduled for February 26th, at the NIS Conference Centre from 9am. Over seventy five persons representing the various business houses, the banking and entertainment sector, media and production houses, the legal profession as well consumers are expected to be in attendance at the consultation. This consultation forms part of the Advertising Technical Committee's public awareness activities on the standard and is intended to ensure that all parties which will be affected by this standard can participate fully in its development. It is expected that the half day session will provide a forum for profound discussions on the relevance of such a standard and ascertain comments and concerns about the draft standard and advertising in St. Lucia in general. The ½ day session will hear presentations from Chairman of the committee Embert Charles who will focus on the status of Advertising in St. Lucia as well as the results of a recently undertaken survey of business and public opinion on advertising issues. The various elements of the draft standard will also be presented during the consultation. One of the highlights of the consultation will be a presentation by Peter Poppelwell, Secretary to the Advertising Standards Authority of Trinidad on how that country's Advertising Standard is implemented. This is expected to lay the basis discussions on the way forward for St. Lucia. The draft standard "Requirements for Advertising" can be perused at all public libraries, the Department of Consumer Affairs and the Bureau of Standards. A copy of the standard can also be downloaded from the Bureau's website www.slbs.org.lc. The consultation is open to the general public. Persons interested in participating can register at the St. Lucia Bureau of Standards. |
