US Tourist and Tour Operator Interest in St. Lucia Still High |
Friday, February 16, 2001 - St. Lucia’s top tourism officials were in discussions with tour operator companies in major United States cities this week on the status of visitor interest in St. Lucia. According to Tourism Minister Honourable Menissa Rambally, who is leading the delegation that comprises Tourist Board Chairman Desmond Skeete and Director of Tourism Hilary Modeste, discussions with tour operators in the mid-western United States reveal a continued high level of interest in St. Lucia as a vacation destination. Speaking from Chicago the minister said the recent re-organisation of the St. Lucia Tourist Board’s operations in the US has been working positively for the island. "The feedback from the tour operators is that they are contented and happy with the St. Lucian product and the fact that they now have more direct access to sales persons who serve St. Lucia on a full time basis is welcomed," she added. Minister Rambally noted too, that the delegation has been able to agree to several measures that will allow for greater collaboration between tour operators, the airlines and the Tourist Board. The new arrangements are expected to result in easier bookings to and from the island. |
