Friday, July 13, 2001 – Commissioner of Police Brian Bernard has announced several changes which affect traffic in the capital, Castries, during carnival festivities next Monday and Tuesday.

 

The changes, made under Section 89 of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act No. 13 of 1994, will see the closure of the following routes from 10 p.m. on Monday, July 16:

John Compton Highway from the Vigie Roundabout to its intersection with Jeremie Street.

Peynier Street from its intersection with Jeremie Street to its intersection with Micoud Street.

bullet

Micoud Street from its intersection with Bridge Street to its intersection with Chisel Street. 

bullet

Chisel Street from its intersection with Micoud Street to its intersection with Chaussee Road. 

bullet

Riverside Road, Brogile Street from its intersection with Jeremie Street. 

bullet

William Peter Boulevard, Laborie Street from its intersection with Micoud Street to its intersection with Jeremie Street. 

bullet

Jeremie Street from its intersection with Bridge Street to its intersection with Carl Crescent Street.

bullet

Marchand Road, Park Lane, Morne Giraud Road and Waterworks Road from its intersection with O’Rielly Drive.

 

On Tuesday, July 17,  when the last lap jump-up takes place, the following routes will be closed to traffic.

Micoud Street from its intersection with Bridge Street to its intersection with Chisel Street.

Chisel Street from its intersection with Micoud Street to its intersection with Chaussee Road.

Riverside Road, Brogile Street from its intersection with Riverside Road to its intersection with Micoud Street.

Bridge Street from its intersection with Micoud Street to its intersection with Jeremie Street. 

bullet

William Peter Boulevard, Laborie Street from its intersection with Micoud Street to its intersection with Jeremie Street. 

bullet

Jeremie Street from its intersection with Bridge Street to its intersection with Carl Crescent Street.

 

No parking of motor vehicles will be permitted along the above-mentioned routes.

Leslie Land Road, from its intersection with Water Works Road to Chaussee Road, will serve as a thoroughfare for two way traffic. 

 

“Motor omnibuses displaced for the two days are assigned to the following streets for the purpose of picking up commuters: buses plying routes within Castries East, that is Bocage, Cocoa Girard and Forestiere, will use Chaussee Road from its intersection with Leslie Land to its intersection with Grass Street on the left side facing east. Also, buses plying all south bound routes are assigned upper Bridge Street from its intersection with Micoud Street to its intersection with Micoud Street to its intersection with Morne Fortune,” the police commissioner said.

 

The National Insurance Property Development and Management Company Ltd (NIPRO), which operates the new high rise car park at Conway, is offering a special rate of $10 a day for motorists  who wish to use the facility during carnival.
