Friday, July 27, 2001 – Prime Minister Honourable Dr. Kenny D. Anthony along with Planning and Housing Minister the Honourable Dr. Walter Francois and Member of Parliament for Castries East the Honourable Philip J. Pierre, on Monday September 10, 2001 will tour the Carellie re-location site, to get a first hand assessment of the work done to date.

The Ministry of Planning and Housing says work is undeniably progressing, in preparing the Carellie relocation site for the scores of households affected by the Black Mallet/Maynard Hill land slippage.

Word from the Ministry is that contractual works have been divided between two construction companies, in an effort to speed up the exercise. Already major infrastructural developments have taken place, namely the installation of sewer and water mains, with the first section of the road network having been completed. A team of surveyors has also begun sub-dividing the lots.

Government is reported to have spent already over $20 million dollars on the relocation effort since the disaster began in November 1999.
