Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Honourable Menissa Rambally has
welcomed indications from the cruise sector that St. Lucia continues to rank as
one of the premiere cruise destinations in the Caribbean.
While attending a Florida/Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) meeting in Aruba
recently, Ms. Rambally was presented with an award to St. Lucia, voted one of
the most picturesque destinations in the Caribbean by Porthole Cruise Magazine,
one of the leading cruise magazines. St. Lucia has now captured that award two
years in a row.
According
to Ms. Rambally, very importantly, discussions held with Royal Caribbean and
Carnival Cruise Lines at the FCCA meeting have confirmed that bookings for St.
Lucia are averaging 90% of what they were last year. This, she says,
demonstrates confidence in the cruise sector and the willingness of travellers
to continue going on vacation, notwithstanding the recent terrorist attacks on
the U.S. The Tourism Minister is of the view that this serves as an important
indicator for the cruise sector and will augur well for St. Lucia’s tourism
sector, overall.
The
Caribbean remains a premiere cruise destination in the world, controlling 45% of
the cruise market. |
