St. Lucia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Senator Julian Hunte,
has expressed concern about the slow pace of implementation of some European
Union-funded development projects in the Caribbean.
Speaking at the 11th meeting of Ministers of the Caribbean Forum (CARIFORUM)
of the African Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) grouping, held at the Hyatt Regency
Hotel here on Wednesday, Hunte called for “a dispassionate assessment of the
reasons for the inordinate delays”.
“We
need to act speedily to remove whatever shortcomings that might exist in these
arrangements,” the minister said, pointing to the need for the Caribbean to
demonstrate to European citizens
that European-funded projects “were impacting significantly on the lives of the
region’s people.
The
CARIFORUM ministerial conference preceded a meeting on
Thursday with officials of the European Commission, the EU’s executive
arm. |
