Saint Lucia Sets Up Council On Social Development |

Lucia has inaugurated a National Council on Human and Social Development,
implementing a decision taken by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Council on
Human and Social Development and applicable to all member states. The
Council, chaired by Saint Lucia’s Ambassador to CARICOM, His Excellency
Anthony Severin, will assist in developing a new, holistic approach to human and
social development in Saint Lucia The Council held its first meeting last
Friday. According
to Ambassador Severin, the establishment of the Council is expected to lead to
better coordination of activities in the social sector. Ministers responsible
for the social sectors sit on the various national councils. “In the case of St. Lucia, you would have the Minister for
Education, Human Resource Development, Youth and Sports,
the Minister for Health, Human Services Gender Relations, the Minister
for Home Affairs and Labour and the Minister for Community Development Culture
and Cooperatives. So in effect you will now have a greater level of
coordination, consultation and input from those various social bodies,”
Severin explained. |
