Saint Lucia’s Prime Minister, Honourable Dr. Kenny D. Anthony is scheduled to
arrive in Trinidad and Tobago, late Sunday, January 14 for a briefing on the
current impasse between Prime Minister Panday and President Robinson over the
appointment of several senators. Prime
Minister Anthony will be accompanied by CARICOM Secretary General, Edwin
Carrington. Prime
Minister Anthony says his objective is to be informed on the matter and he will
not be playing a mediating role in the present crisis. His visit to the twin island republic is even more necessary
now, he adds, as Prime Minister Panday has requested an opportunity to brief his
fellow heads of government during the Canada-Caricom summit to be held in
Jamaica next week. Dr.
Anthony expects to brief Caricom Prime Ministers at that meeting on his
findings, in his capacity as Caricom head responsible for Justice and
Governance. Dr. Anthony’s visit comes at the invitation of Prime Minister Panday and after consultation with current CARICOM Chairman, Prime Minister Honourable Owen Arthur, the Leader of the Opposition of Trinidad & Tobago, Honourable Patrick Manning, and the office of the President of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago. |
