Price Contorl System for Agricultural Inputs |
Contact: John Emmanuel Tuesday, March 06, 2001 - The Ministry of Consumer Affairs has begun working closely with the Ministry of Agriculture in setting up a controlled price regime for suppliers of agricultural inputs. The move follows earlier initiatives on the part of government in removing all duties and consumption taxes on agricultural inputs. Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister Honourable Phillip J. Pierre says farmers nation-wide stand to benefit considerably from the controlled price system. "Our preliminary calculations show that farmers will make savings of over $2,800.00 per acre and we believe that this will redound to the benefit of agriculture in St. Lucia. I’m very pleased with the level of co-operation given to us by the suppliers and the work of the Consumer Affairs division and the Ministry of Agriculture," said Minister Pierre. The order placing agricultural inputs under price control is to be signed in coming weeks. |
