Assisting women and young people is the focus of a three-day workshop being
staged here next week by the Poverty Reduction Fund (PRF) in collaboration with
the Network of Social Investment Funds of Latin America and the Caribbean. The
June 26-28 event, slated for the NIS Conference Centre on the Waterfront, will
seek to obtain consensus on the need for social investment funds to intervene
more directly in facilitating the implementation of social assistance programmes
for women and the youth. “What
we are hoping to do with this workshop is to examine the different experiences
that have been implemented by various investment funds in the past that have
targeted women and youth,” said Executive Director of the PRF, Donovan
Williams. “So
while we in St. Lucia at this point will not be initiating any specific
programmes, what will be of importance to us will be to learn from the lessons
of experiences from some of those programmes and to determine how applicable
they could be to our different circumstances as social investment funds,” he
added. Williams
noted that while the PRF is anxious to examine some of these programmes, more
critically it will be looking at the processes that have been involved and
whether these processes and actual programmes can be replicated in St. Lucia’s
context. The workshop will draw participants from social investment funds from throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. |
