PM Returns from Malaysia State Visit |

May 15, 2001 - Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony is back in Saint Lucia following a four-day State Visit to Malaysia. The Prime Minister, who headed a five-member delegation of public and private sector officials, described the mission as productive and enlightening. Dr. Anthony held discussions with the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dr. Mahatir Mohamad, as well as with various development agencies including The Multimedia Development Corporation, the Malaysia Agriculture Research and Development Institute, The Economic Planning Agency, The Tourism Development Corporation of Malaysia, and the Langkawi Development Authority. These discussions covered a wide range of issues and explored potential areas of cooperation between the two countries. Prime Minister Anthony said that he was heartened by Prime Minister Mohamad's promise to encourage Malaysian businesses to invest in Saint Lucia, particularly in the services sector. The mission was highlighted by the signing of an Economic, Scientific, and Technical Co-operation Agreement between Saint Lucia and Malaysia. The Prime Minister expects diplomatic contacts between Saint Lucia and Malaysia to intensify in the coming weeks as officials of the two countries pursue follow-up activities in relation to the Economic, Scientific, and Technical Co-operation Agreement. |
