PM Pays Official Visit to Malaysia |
Monday, May 7, 2001 - Prime Minister Dr. Kenny D. Anthony is on his way to Malaysia, where he begins a three-day official visit on Wednesday. The Prime Minister left St. Lucia Sunday evening for London, where he arrived Monday morning and held several meetings before leaving for Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian capital, on Tuesday. In Malaysia, the Prime Minister will meet with his counterpart, Prime Minister Dr. Mahatir Mohamed, and they are expected to sign several agreements for cooperation between the two countries. The St. Lucia Prime Minister and his delegation will also visit several places and projects of interest to St. Lucia. The official visit to Malaysia comes against the background of an invitation issued to Prime Minister Anthony by Dr. Mohamed during a recent visit to St. Lucia. The Malaysian Head of State has visited St. Lucia several times, once for an official state visit several years ago, and more recently on a private holiday spent at Marigot Bay. Prime Minister Anthony is accompanied by Planning, Environment and Housing Minister Dr. Walter Francois and the delegation also includes recently-appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Mr. Anthony Severin, as well as officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Office of the Prime Minister. The visit to Malaysia begins Wednesday and ends on Friday. The Prime Minister returns to St. Lucia over the weekend, but soon after will leave to leave for West Palm Beach, Florida, where he will be meeting with US President George W. Bush. |
