Monday, May 28, 2001 – Members of the St. Lucia Employers’ Federation (SLEF) will benefit from a significant human resource development project, which is being undertaken in collaboration with the Office of Private Sector Relations (OPSR). Targeted at hoteliers, manufacturers, distributors and several other members of the federation, the project, over a four-year period, will seek to improve productivity and industrial relations of member companies by providing them with training in areas such as total quality and performance management.
The project started on January 3rd, 2001 and will be completed by January 31st 2005 at a total cost of the project is $243,000.00. On Monday May 28, 2001, the two organizations signed an agreement to formalise the arrangement.
Adrian Augier Head of the OPSR says that his office will provide the resources to SLEF for the training of its members. “It is anticipated that by the end of this project there should be increased productivity within member companies, there will be reduced cost of production as a result of the activities which will be undertaken, membership companies would have trained capacity in industrial and labour relations and there would be an improved performance of employees in terms of their own productivity,” said Augier.
The Employers’ Federation has been in existence for over four decades and with an increasing demand on its resources to meet the needs of its members, the initiative will go a long way towards the support and upgrading of equipment and staffing to serve the needs of its membership and the private sector in general.
“St. Lucia’s human resource will need to make a quantum leap in its mindset and modus operandi, if we are to successfully compete on the international stage. Our secretariat, will seek to play its part in contributing to the overall success of our national human resource management strategies,” said President of the Federation, Malcolm Charles.
This particular venture forms part of the ongoing private sector development strategy, which is funded by the European Union and the Government of St. Lucia. |
