OECS Sports Desk Releases Five-Year Sports Plan |
Defining
the way forward for sports within the OECS region, that’s what the OECS Sports
Desk says is the rationale behind its presentation of a five-year sports work
plan. The plan, presented to sports authorities, was the main agenda item at a
meeting held late last month for Directors of Sports and Permanent Secretaries
in sports ministries across the region. OECS
Sports Coordinator David Peterkin, says priority areas for the work plan include
accessing scholarships for the region’s promising athletes. Peterkin has
described the plan as critical to the future role of the OECS Sports Desk and
the overall development of sport in the sub-region. “It is absolute necessary that we have goals to set and we
have to figure out how we’re going to achieve these goals. Each and every
member state and those that have not already implemented them are working
towards their own sports policy that in the long run would help out tremendously
with the way forward. Unless we have a plan then we don’t know where we are
going. As far as I’m concerned, this five-year work plan is absolutely
essential,” Peterkin told reporters. Sports
Directors and Permanent Secretaries take the work plan back to their respective
member states for ratification, after which the OECS Sports Desk is expected to
extract a series of one-year programmes for implementation.
