The Saint Lucia Tourist Board next week is launching a redesigned website on the
Internet as part of a beefed-up international marketing campaign which seeks to
ensure that the island’s tourism industry continues to grow, despite current
challenges. “The
website is one way of reaching persons one-on-one. The research that we have
done has shown us that even when persons book through a travel agent or book
directly through a hotel, they are actually researching on the web a great
deal,” said Deputy Director Maria Fowell. “Therefore, although the
percentage of bookings may be smaller, definitely people are using the web for
research and that means that the information that you provide to them must be
quality.” The
highly interactive website features special interest sections, an extensive
photo-library, interactive flash map, up to date press releases, statistics as
well as brochures and flyers for downloading.
Fowell disclosed there are plans to have the site generate revenue for the Board by allowing visitors to purchase tickets for major events like the Saint Lucia Jazz Festival, as well as tourism memorabilia |
