Officials of the Ministry of Communication, Works, Transport and Public
Utilities are hoping to formulate a structured works programme, whereby
established road and drainage priorities can be integrated into a schedule of
works over the next fiscal year. Newly
appointed Chief Engineer Doltan Cenac says along with various parliamentary
representatives he has been conducting a series of tours to ascertain the needs
of these constituencies. According to him, a number of capital works projects
have either been completed or are at advanced stages. “Amongst
the on going works at present we have the Castries Inner Relief Road, the
Community Roads Programme and the Agricultural Feeder Roads Programme together
with various other sub-control works and de-silting of rivers. The Castries
inner relief road essentially comprises the new Castries River Bridge, the
Manoel Street link and the Vigie Roundabout that was completed in 1999. The
Castries River Bridge deck was actually cast this Monday (January 29) and
together with the Manoel Street link should be substantially completed by
mid-March,” said Mr. Cenac. The Ministry of Communications and Works has recently awarded contracts for the upgrade of selected roads falling under the Agricultural Feeder Roads Programme. The Community Roads Programme will commence later in the month. |
