The National Carnival Development Committee is banking on selling Carnival 2001
even more vigorously by the time carnival celebrations come around by mid-year. NCDC
Director Gandolf St. Clair says later this month, sponsors will be brought
together to discuss and review their support for Carnival, with a view to
ensuring that they get their money’s worth. According
to St. Clair, “Last year 2000 was a good year for sponsorship in Carnival.
We were able to raise an additional 60 thousand dollars in new
sponsorship efforts not to mention the in-kind sponsorships of the hotels. We
had seven major hotels last year and things look even more promising this year.
Based on what we can see, there is potential for further investment in new
areas. We now want to hold talks with old sponsors and induce new ones while
ensuring that all get their money’s worth.” Some
of the main sponsors for Carnival over the years have been Piton Beer, BWIA, St.
Lucia Distillers, Caribbean Chateaux, and Renwick and Company. NCDC officials are of the view that the wide sponsorship enjoyed by Carnival attests to its potential as a substantial investment and promotional vehicle. |
