Multi-Purpose Court for Gueaneau/Ti Rocher |
Wednesday, July 25, 2001 - Having to use the streets as their playground will soon be a thing of the past for the young people of Gueaneau/Ti Rocher.
The community will soon have a modern multi-purpose sports court, being built at a cost of EC$82,000. The Government of France and the Government of St. Lucia are co-financing the project.
According to president of the Gueasneau/Ti Rocher Development Committee Carol Valcin, the facility “will go a long way to help the residents and the young people because for too many years they have been working and playing on the road which is very dangerous.”
Valcin added: “Having this multi-purpose court will help them to move away from that road and have a better place to work and I know that this gift will go a very long way in developing the sporting activities in our community and as well as developing the social aspect among our people.”
French Ambassador, His Excellency Henry Vidal, said France was fully committed to undertaking partnership projects with the Government of St Lucia that focus on the development of young people. He noted that over past four years, France had supported several youth projects in the countries of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
“With funds specially for youth and sporting activities and in the framework of these regional agreements, I think that St. Lucia has benefited from some one million francs,” the ambassador said. |
