Monday, July 30, 2001 – The Environmental Health Department and Victoria Hospital are the latest beneficiaries of French assistance to St. Lucia.  On Friday, July 27, French Ambassador, His Excellency Henri Vidal presented equipment to the two institutions valued at EC$100,000.00.The equipment includes fogging machines for mosquito control, a tissue processor and microscopes.

Noting that the World Health Organisation (WHO) considers Dengue Fever a high priority disease which requires serious attention, Ambassador Vidal said some of the equipment will come in handy in the fight against the dreaded disease.

Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Honourable Michael Gaspard, who received the equipment on behalf of the Government of Saint Lucia, stated that the government is extremely appreciative of the French government’s commitment to assisting St. Lucia’s health needs. He noted that the relationship which exists between St. Lucia and its French counterpart, particularly in the cultural and health sector, has been of immense benefit to the St. Lucia.
