Ministry of Commerce Meets it Operators |
Friday, June 22, 2001 - Forging stronger and closer ties among companies involved in the Information Technology and Services Sectors. According to the Ministry of Commerce, International Financial Services and Consumer Affairs, that was the idea behind a one-day meeting which took place at the Caribbees Hotel on Thursday, June 21, 2001. Commerce and Industry Officer responsible for the Information Technology and Services Sectors, Deloris Gregg, said the meeting brought together representatives of Informatics and Call Centre operations on the island, in an effort to provide the Ministry with critical feedback on short-falls facing the fledging IT industry. “We thought it important at this point to have a collective meeting rather than a one-to-one setting with all persons, whereby we would have an open forum in terms of the discussion on problems, needs and ways of improving the services which the Ministry makes available to these companies,” Gregg said. According to the official, a major problem facing the sector is the length of time it takes for the processing of requests submitted to the Ministry. She said her department is hoping to address that concern by critically analysing the current system of approving fiscal incentives. |
