- The void left by the noticeable absence of the
Rambally Rides at this year’s Assou Square celebrations, is to be filled by
the time activities marking St. Lucia’s 22nd Anniversary of
Independence come around in February. Word from the Ministry of Community Development, Culture, Local Government, and Co-operatives is that confirmation has been received, from the Scotland based Taylor’s Fun Fair and Coney Island to participate in the 2001 Independence celebrations, which will begin around the last week of January. Permanent
Secretary in the Ministry, Jacintha St. Helen, says representatives of the
company are due here from as early as this weekend, to oversee operational
procedures. “The Taylor’s Fun Fair and Coney Island is expected to be on the island around mid-January. They are coming to set up well in advance of the celebrations because there are certain requirements to be met. On site, they need to install water and electrical connections, they need to meet electrical compliance in terms of fire and mechanical inspections, together with customs bond arrangements for the equipment. We are hoping that within the next two weeks the rides will be opened to the public,” said St. Helen. |
