- Persons in the arts and craft industry have been applauded for
the creativity and innovation they have put into their work.
Over the weekend persons from various communities got the opportunity to
showcase their handiwork at the National Arts and Craft Festival in Choiseul. Director of Community Services and Local Government, Lucian Isidore, who addressed the gathering at the opening ceremony said the high quality of the work on exhibit could stimulate more than just economic activity in communities.
“When
I looked around as I walked through the booths, I saw without a doubt value
being added to those exhibits. The question is how can we use these exhibits as
a means of transforming the apathy that seems to exist in communities.
I believe that the value of today’s activity will not only promote the
interest of the individual artisans but will continue to transform into tangible
earnings for the respective areas.”
The
village of Choiseul is considered the Mecca of arts and craft on the island with
over five hundred people involved in that industry. The National Arts and Craft Festival is held biannually through the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Community Development and Culture and community groups and organizations. |
