Monday, August 27, 2001 – Two days after it was officially opened to traffic, the Ministry of Communications, Works, Transport and Public Utilities is generally pleased with how the new Castries Inner Relief Road is working, thanks to the assistance of the police.

Although some motorists are yet to become familiar with new changes in the traffic flow in the city, others are “using the (new) route smoothly and we hope this will continue”, said Transport Officer with the Transport Division, Ms. Annette Augustin.

In a bid to maintain a smooth flow of traffic, the Ministry is considering putting up additional traffic signs to complement those already in place at the new routes.  Augustin said this may be necessary particularly with the one-way traffic sign erected at the Bridge Street/Micoud Street intersection. She said this would enable motorists not totally familiar with the changes to be guided better along the new routes.
