"Tourism, an industry that has brought EC$747 million to the businesses of St. Lucia and employs thousands of people island-wide, is of obvious importance to St. Lucia's economic health," said Mr. Modeste. "I applaud the individuals and organizations that are leading the way to promote St. Lucia as a world-class destination for hundreds of thousands of tourist each year." Guests were treated to an awesome performance by celebrity host, the internationally acclaimed actor Joseph Marcell and local entertainer Derede Williams. Entertainment took on a new dimension this year with musical excerpts from one of Derek Walcott's best-loved plays Ti Jean and His Brothers, a collaboration between the Nobel Laureate and Trinidadian guitarist and composer Andre Tanker. Mr. Modeste extended sincere congratulations to all winners for their outstanding achievement. "As the tourism industry's marketing arm, we at the Tourist Board are proud to be associated with such professional individuals and businesses. With these awards the everyday person is recognized for his or her efforts and this helps bring the industry to a higher level," concluded Modeste. |
