Government Launches New Website |
Contact: Julita Peter Thursday, May 03, 2001 – The Government of St. Lucia on Thursday unveiled its newly designed website. In launching the new site Prime Minister and Minister for Information Hon. Dr. Kenny Anthony, said that it is another stride in fulfilling government’s overall objective to bring government closer to the people. The new website will provide more comprehensive coverage of government activities and another means of communicating directly the various departments. " Recent history in St. Lucia has taught us that in spite of numerous efforts on the part of this government to facilitate the free flow of timely and accurate information about government’s achievements we cannot rely on anyone else to do this for us," said Dr. Anthony. He added "In launching this redeveloped website, our aim is simple-to be your first resource to find any information on the Government of St. Lucia on the Internet." Visitors to the new Government of Saint Lucia Website will find a wealth of information on every government agency, national signs and symbols, the Saint Lucia Constitution, the Parliament and links to other websites on Saint Lucians. The site will also serve as an important research tool for students and other persons seeking information on Saint Lucia. Meantime the new Director of Information Services, Embert Charles indicated the website is the most recent addition to the wide range of opportunities available to receive accurate and timely information on the operations of the public sector agencies and ministries of government. Mr. Charles said "This website is here to stay, as it is not bugged by the plagues of the commercial dot.com sites which flutter daily all over the world." He reveled that very soon the Department of Information Services will continue to expand the channels of communication and information dissemination through the launching of a local channel on cable television. The official launching of the Government of St. Lucia Website was well attended by Government Ministers, students, and representatives of government, non-governmental organizations and the private sector.
