Prime Minister, Honourable Dr. Kenny says following Thursday’s meeting of the
Cabinet of Ministers, an announcement will be made on other ways and means St.
Lucia will pay its respects to those who died in this week’s terrorist attacks
on the United States. On
Tuesday the Prime Minister dispatched a letter to the President of the United
States expressing St. Lucia’s collective grief and outrage at the incidents.
That letter read:
“Dear
Mr. President, The
Government and people 0f St. Lucia are in deep shock over the tragic
events which took place earlier today in New York, Washington DC, and
Pennsylvania. We
deplore the acts of terror and barbarism perpetrated against the Government and
people of the United States with whom we share a history and common hemispheric
destiny, and regret most particularly, the heavy loss of life. The pain and the
suffering of the people 0f the United States are shared by all of us,
and our hearts and prayers go out to the victims, their families, friends and
loved ones. Mr.
President, we ask that you accept our humble expressions of outrage, grief,
comfort and support in the most difficult time, and that you convey
these same sentiments to your Government and people on our behalf.” Meanwhile
the Prime Minister is appealing to churches island-wide to say special prayers
for the victims and their families during the regular services this weekend. - ends - |
