Exam Results Show Overall Improvement |
Thursday, July 12, 2001 - The Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development, Youth and Sports is glowing with pride over the across-the-board improved performance achieved by students who wrote this year’s Common Entrance and Minimum Standards Examinations. Education officials, who have been analysing the results, said students performed better in almost every aspect of the two examinations this year, compared with last year. The Ministry is also pleased that it was able to assign more students to secondary school places this year than at any time in the past. “Concerning the Common Entrance, 2,482 students are assigned this year as compared to 2,427,” said Education Minister, Hon. Mario Michel.
The Ministry noted there was a significant improvement in mathematics with the average score rising from 23.4 per cent in 2000 to 34.6 per cent in 2001. Also, for the first time in a long time, male students outperformed their female counterparts. Of the top ten students who achieved the highest scores, six were male. |
