Constituency Visit Brings Quick Results |
Contact: Roger Joseph Wednesday, March 07, 2001 – Work is to start immediately on a new playing field for the residents of Morne Cayenne, following a two-day tour of the Vieux Fort North constituency by Prime Minister, Honourable Dr. Kenny D. Anthony. The new playing field will be located on the site of an old banana plantation and had been budgeted for completion within the current fiscal year. Due the several delays, the project had not started and during his visit to the constituency earlier this week, Dr. Anthony advised that work should start immediately to ensure that the funds set aside for the project were used before the financial year closed in the next two weeks. Another area that is to benefit almost immediately from the Prime Minister’s visit is Fond Joyeux (Jwy-yay). The Poverty Reduction Fund (PRF) is expected to construct a footpath to link this community to the main road at Grace. Also, the PRF will team up with the Water and Sewerage Company (WASCO) in a water development project for the community that will see the laying of a new water main and service connections for the residents. The Poverty Reduction Fund has promised assistance also to the Pierrot Mothers and Fathers group in developing an old boxing plant into a hall for the group’s activities. The Prime Minister has promised too, that the playing field at Pierrot will be cleared of boulders, levelled and some drainage put in. The tour of the constituency took the Prime Minister and his delegation to several new and proposed developments including the new stadium site, the new Vigier Infant School, and the proposed site for a new Human Resource Development Centre at Belle Vue. The group saw, newly electrified communities such as Ma Decla and Terre Vent, and the site where persons who had been squatting on the stadium site were relocated. The Prime Minister and his delegation also visited the Grace Combined School where the students put on several cultural performances and questioned the Prime Minister on several issues. Dr. Anthony completed his visit to the school with a promise to provide two computers and Internet service to the school. The Prime Minister and his delegation held one community meeting at the Pierrot Combined School at the end of the first day of the tour. The concerns of most of the residents, who attended, centred on the provision of improved roads, water and electricity. A second community meeting planned for the Grace Combined School on the evening of the second day was postponed until Saturday, March 31, to facilitate the Prime Minister who had to travel to Barbados on official business that evening. |
